Launching my Own Podcast Show!

I have been wanting to start a podcast for a while. In 2016, I made an attempt, but it was mostly just me ranting about the music industry, and I wasn’t happy with the result. So I stopped.

Recently, I decided to try again. Before launching my new project- hosted on Ghost, I thought about doing another music project. This time, besides writing in-depth articles about the music industry, I wanted to retry to have a podcast.

I reached out to my Indonesian friends. My initial idea was to revive my old project, Music Export ID. It was an endeavor with the aim to bring Indonesian music and musicians abroad. However, dealing with bands and artists seemed like too much work with little return, based on past experience. In my proposal, I included the idea of having music media featuring articles and podcasts. After about a month of trying to gather partners, I realized I needed a project that wouldn’t demand too much time and commitment from me. I wanted to build a music-related product but decided to start slow, have fun learning, and figure out the commercial aspects later.

I eventually decided to go my own way, seeking the support I needed without excessive feedback. I wanted to build something for myself first and see how it evolved. My Indonesian would be partners let me moved on by my own.

So I contacted friends from my international music network, the music trailblazers, and decided to start with my friend Py, who was involved in my previous music conference in Bandung in 2016. I had him on my first podcast, and from there, I began to seriously learn about developing a show, managing projects, recording, production, promotion, and writing follow-up posts related to essential points made in the podcast.

Now, I’ve published two podcasts and a few essential articles already. The project has launched, and there’s no turning back. It’s my side hustle for now, but I hope to make it a full-time job if the opportunity arises. In the meantime, my goal is to build something I’ll be proud of in the future and avoid any regrets about not trying. So wish me luck!
