How Music Festivals Changed My Life

Robin-Malau-TEDxBandung

TEDxBandung invited me to share a story that could inspire people. The invitation came after one of the franchise’s organizers attended a Creative Commons discussion I was part of and watched me speak.

The core of my talk:
1. How I fell in love with music as a kid without realizing it was quietly changing my life. Until one day I watched a band rehearsing at a studio, playing one of my songs with real emotion. Outside afterward, they greeted me and said, “Bro, your band changed my life.” That was the moment I truly understood how music can transform a person.

  1. Moving from Bandung to Bali, then Bali to Jakarta, also shaped my perspective. In Bandung, I learned to start living through music and study. Moving to Bali opened things up — surrounded by so much spiritual activity, mostly in festival form. When I arrived in Jakarta, I nearly forgot everything — I got swept up chasing money like most Jakartans do.

  2. Then in 2013, I went to Download Festival. I witnessed something that transformed my life. I came back fully committed to music — not as a musician anymore, but as someone working behind the scenes, helping musicians build better lives.

It was good fun!
