Rockstar Now Geek started on Substack. It made sense at the time — free, clean, easy to set up. The problem is that Substack is built around the idea of a newsletter, and what I’m actually doing there is not that. It’s a companion blog to my YouTube channel, written in Indonesian, documenting life in California. There’s no edition. There’s no dispatch. Calling it a newsletter was already a small lie every time someone subscribed.
The bigger reason is the workflow. I’ve been building Lowrobb OS — a personal automation layer that handles parts of my creative output, including pulling from YouTube and drafting blog posts. That system needs WordPress. Substack doesn’t have the open architecture for it. Once I committed to building that pipeline, the move was just a matter of getting it done.
Which, as of today, it is.
The irony is that robinmalau.com — this site — has been on WordPress since 2006. I know WordPress. I run a WordPress agency. Moving Rockstar Now Geek here isn’t some technical achievement; it’s me finally putting everything in the same place it probably should have been from the start.
The site looks different now. Bigger type, bolder layout, and for the first time since I started putting things on the internet, a green background. Every site I’ve ever run has been black or white. The green came from the palm tree I use as the logo, and when I put it together it just worked. Small thing. Noticed it anyway.
All the old posts are there. Same content, just not on Substack anymore. If you’ve been reading over there — both of you — everything moved over.
